Louise to enter this year's Burnsong Songwriting house...
|
02 Dec 2007, 19:30 - Burnsong Songhouse 2007 The Queen’s Hall, Clerk Street Edinburgh, Midlothian, EH8 9JG Cost:£15/12
Just what will Midge Ure, Idlewild’s Roddy Woomble, Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake, Jo Mango, Nuala Kennedy, Louise Quinn, L-Marie and Found’s Ziggy Campbell create after a week locked away in the Burnsong Songhouse in Dumfries and Galloway? Ranging from electronica through pop and into folk this is one of the most exciting gigs of 2007. See some of the giants of Scottish songwriting perform songs that they have literally written in the previous week. Expect songs, stories and insights into their varied approaches to the craft of songwriting. "As an experiment Songhouse has produced songs which are, by in turns funny, insightful, foot-tappingly catchy, achingly beautiful an also unbearably sad". Susan Mansfield, The Scotsman

Club Tromolo at East Kilbride Arts Centre Saturday 26th August 8pm-1am £5/6 An evening of music and performance at East Kilbride Arts Centre. For one night only, Club Tromolo will be bringing wonky cabaret and sweet sweet music to South Lanarkshire. Music comes from Quinn ( http://www.myspace.com/abandcalledquinn ) - mixing folk, jazz, electronica in such a way that's still pop enough for drunks to dance to. Also, Canary Warfare ( http://www.myspace.com/canarywarfare ) providing pleasingly melancholic lofi songsmithery. Next Quinn Gig - Club Tromolo 16th March @ Oran Mor
|
Club Tromolo : An evening of Music and Performance Downstairs at Oran Mor Thursday 16th March 2006 : entry £5 9pm - 2am ‘The Last Drag’ Club Tromolo presents a tribute to the grand old Scottish tradition of smoking, as we count down to the national ban. At the downstairs of Oran Mor (Gaelic for ‘boil-in-the-bag Korma’), Tromolo hosts music and performance to smoke yourself siily to. Doors at 9pm, Dj Lady Stash Collins provides intimate sounds from French Pop to Rocksteady; one for the cigar-smokers. Cabaret from 10pm; all the way from Macclesfield, Frank and Doreen Percy present the finest in contemporary variety - Mystic Martin and Suzie Sparkle’s ‘illusionism-ations’ as they call it - Jazzbadger tripping out as only a nocturnal mammal (or maybe McCoy Tyner) could - Kozmik Colin’s tales of West End drinking marathons - and a taste of the avant-garde with ‘posh bloke’ Clifton Sainsbury. Woodbines will be provided. Bands from 11.30 For the pipe smokers, we have the uptempo sound of resident band Quinn experimenting with rock, folk, jazz and electronica in such a way that drunk people can still dance to it. Also, new band ‘Gents’ will introduce us to their dark take on 80s electro-pop. For the last hour or so, DJ Danbury Mint will play glam rock, old school hip hop( in fact mostly records made by sex-offenders, come to think of it... ) til we run out of papers. Tromolo say - stick it to the man by smoking til you throw up. Here’s some links to photos etc. http://www.myspace.com/clubtromolo http://www.myspace.com/abandcalledquinn

Club Tromolo Returns!!! Thursday 16th February at Oran Mor
|
Club Tromolo : An evening of Music and Performance at Oran Mor Thursday 16th Feb 2006 : entry £5/4 9pm - 2am Club Tromolo returns on Thursday 16th February, bringing it’s wonky cabaret and groovy music to the deprived citizens of Glasgow’s west end. Appearing at the downstairs of the ‘Oran Mor’ (Gaelic for ‘Fractured Pelvis’), host Frank Percy OBE presents a Valentines special; therefore the broad-minded patrons of Tromolo can expect a certain level of ‘sauciness’. We have brothers Zebediah and Bon Jovi (no relation) putting the ‘fun’ (and the ‘mental’) back into ‘fundamental christianity’. Kozmik Colin with his songs of loss, regret and cheap cider. Mystic Martin and Suzie Sparkle’s spectacular(ly crap) magic show. Tromolo are also proud to present a world premier of Clifton Sainsbury’s trombone renditions of notable horror movie soundtracks (4 hour presentation - no talking during the performance thank you). Drag King Ricky Sparkle will stun all with his/her profundity. Deirdre our miserable usherette should be on hand (she has no home) to provide visitors with free gifts - ie. some stuff she found in a skip in Shettleston. Frank’s wife, Doreen will be hosting a Valentine’s karaoke competition in the Ladies toilets after the bar has shut. Also expect to see cult figure (that’s not a misprint) Jazzbadger. But only if you’re really really quiet cos he’s shy. Music-wise, we have the uptempo sound of Quinn experimenting with rock, folk, jazz and electronica in such a way that drunk people can still dance to it. Also, the Nanobots. In the future, they will go into our bloodstream and make us live for ever, but for now, we’ll have to make do with them providing lovely psychedelic pop music for us to hug each other to. http://www.myspace.com/clubtromolo http://www.myspace.com/abandcalledquinn http://www.nanobots500.com

quinn album mixed!

|
That's it - album 2 is mixed and ready to go. We're really excited about it. All we've got to do is whittle down the 14 tracks to just 10 for the record which is harder than it sounds. We're also looking forward to hearing the remixes from Bill Wells and Cinema Recorded Library. Details as to release dates etc. to follow...

Last Great Wilderness released
|
quinn have two songs featured in the new Scottish feature film The Last Great Wilderness directed by David Mackenzie who is also responsible for Young Adam starring Ewan Mcgregor.
One song, Fantasy Three was co-written with Glasgow indie legends The Pastels who composed the soundtrack to the film.
Another song, Your Love, was written specifically for a scene in the movie where a nymphomaniac gyrates to a song on a jukebox.
Strangely, another quinn song Brand New Lover (Hi Karate mix) is featured in the forthcoming film Principles of Lust in a scene where on of the lead characters is seen stripping in a pub. Is there a theme developing here?
Principles of Lust is directed by BAFTA winner penny woolcock (Tina Goes Shopping, Death of Klinghoffer) and is to be released later this year.
